Hi There,
My name is Ian Murphy and I’m your Students Union Postgraduate Officer. I’m 23, born and raised here in Cork, and am now in my 6th year in UCC. I am currently doing a Masters By Research in Chemistry. I got my BSc in Chemistry w/ Forensic Science in ’09.
As Postgraduate Officer I represent and express the views and opinions of the 3,600+ postgrads currently in UCC. This figure continues to rise by the month so I’ll keep you updated.
I am a member of a number of University committees, including;
- Governing Body
- Academic Council
- Academic Board
- Joint Board for the Student Experience
- Academic Council
- Graduates Committee
- A.C. Research Committee
- Students Union Executive
- Student Council
- And a few more!
I work closely with all the Officers in the Students Union as many of the issues that affect postgrad are similar to undergraduate, but the majority of issues are not.
As Postgrad officer I have a responsibility to ensure that the Postgraduate Student Experience is not forgotten about and that the Academic, Economic and Social problems that affect us are not ignored. One way I can ensure that this is done right is by hearing from you.
If you’d like to get involved in the PG section of the Students Union, please contact me. Email me anytime at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it regarding any issues or queries you have.
Thanks, Ian.
